We offer two types of pilot flight training courses;
The Private Pilots (Aircraft) - PPL
(A) Course
The National
Private Pilots Licence (Aircraft) - NPPL(A) Course

The
Private Pilots (Aircraft) - PPL (A) Course
The Traditional pilot training course
Current Civil Aviation Authority
requirements are that student pilots complete a minimum
of 45 hours of flying training. The minimum age for obtaining
a P.P.L. licence is seventeen, however training can commence
as early as fourteen years. This could ensure that they could
qualify for their licence as they attain their seventeenth
birthday.
Students will forever remember the moment when they perform
their very first 'Solo' flight, (minimum age 16). There are
two pre-requisites for this event, namely you must be in
possession of a valid Class II medical certificate, and have
passed the 'Aviation Law' exam. This particular exam can
be equated to 'the rules of the air'.
The medical requirements should not be of any great concern,
and can be taken by one of several CAA licensed medical G.P's.
Their addresses are held by the school for your assistance.
There is a fee for this medical, which is paid direct to
the GP. All medicals are renewed periodically based on the
age of the applicant.
There are seven exams to pass and with the exception of one
of those, all are of the 'multiple choice' answer style.
Part II of the Radiotelephony exam is a short practical test.
(Knowledge of Morse code is not a requirement.)
Students would normally "Self Study" for each of the exams, and then apply to "The Centre" when they feel ready to sit the exam/s. Recognising that some students may have the need for assistance in relation to a subject, or need some "One-to-One" training, this can be provided when discussing the training course.
Towards the end of the flying training course, there are
two flying tests. The first is the 'qualifying cross-country
test' where you are required to fly to two distant airfields
solo, demonstrating your overall skills with navigation,
radio and landing etc. The final flying test is the 'Skill
Test' lasting about two hours and covering all aspects of
the training syllabus.
Once you have obtained your licence, we welcome you to take
advantage of hiring either the two seat or four seat aircraft.
(Conversion 'type' training might apply)
The initial Flying Centre joining Membership fee is £150 plus VAT
for a twelve-month period. The annual renewal fee is £120
plus VAT. (Anyone who has allowed their membership to lapse
by more than 60 days may be required to pay the initial joining
fee again.)
For existing pilots wishing to 'Hour Build', Temporary Membership
can be arranged, along with Block Booking special rates.
The 'Centre' stocks all the training manuals and equipment
necessary for the completion of your training course, in
addition to other flight accessories such as headphones,
navigation aids etc.
The current hourly rates for Flight Training, Landing Fees
and Solo Hire are appended to this document.

The
New National Private Pilots Licence - (NPPL) Course
An abridged flying training course
-
with restriction applying
This newer style of licence and its associated training
syllabus was introduced during 2002.
At present the Civil Aviation Authority requirements are that
students will have to complete a minimum of 32 hours of flight
training for the granting of an N.P.P.L. licence.
In a similar sense to the PPL course described above, the minimum
age for obtaining a NPPL licence is seventeen. Again students
can commence their training prior to this age if they desire
and our staff will be happy to advise.
As you will recognise, with a reduction in the minimum number
of hours stipulated for training, there will be cost saving for
those students who wish to partake in this course. However, there
are a few important restrictions imposed on students following
this method of training reflected in the 'savings'.
In essence, you will only be able to train on and fly specific
types of aircraft. (Difference training will be available at
cost). You will not be able to fly out with the United Kingdom.
The ability to carry passengers and the number of passengers
may be restricted. Ongoing training for the I.M.C. and Night
Flying training courses is prohibited unless you convert to the
PPL licence, which may involve more than just making up the 'difference'
training hours etc.
The medical requirements for the NPPL are simpler in so far as
it would need your own GP to sign the appropriate form that you
are deemed fit to fly. Any relevant fee is payable direct to
the GP.
The exams requiring to be passed are the same as those for the
PPL course.
Hiring of aircraft and membership fees is as per the PPL course.
The hourly cost of flying training etc., is exactly the same
as that for the P.P.L. course.
The 'Centre' holds all the various training manuals and other
flying training related 'tools' in stock.
If there are any other details you may require, please call us
or better still, come over and our staff will be happy to discuss
a training programme with you.
